The Value of Project Templates

Most Project Managers have old documents lying around, that they refer to when starting new projects. But it takes time to sift through it all to find what you need, only then to have to rewrite it all for your new project. That's where templates come in useful. So read on to learn...
 The Value of Project Templates
We're often asked "Why are templates so valuable" so we thought we'd answer the question in this newsletter. There are 5 great reasons why managers and teams find templates so useful. Here they are:

They save you time
On every new project, you have to create new documents to plan, track and report on status. This takes time, especially when many of the documents you create are going to be a one-off. So to save time, use templates to create your documents quickly and easily.

If the templates you use have been well written, then they should be pre-formatted with all of the sections, tables, charts and forms you need. This way, you can avoid having to spend time formatting your documents and purely focus on completing the content. On average, most people save 25% of their time completing project documents, by using properly formatted templates.

They give you direction
In addition to saving you time, well written templates step you through the sections needed to write your document from start to finish. They tell you what you have to write, how and where. They give you direction, so it's crystal clear what has to be done to complete your document.

They make it easier
In short, a good quality template will make the task of creating a project document as easy as 1-2-3. You don't have to stress about what needs to go in your document, how to format it or how to write it up. The template will tell you what information needs to be entered, and it should include practical examples to help you along the way.

They boost your quality
It makes sense that if you use high quality templates, then you will generate high quality documents. High quality templates should be professionally designed, written by experts and aligned with worldwide standards.

They give you confidence
Have you ever been asked to write a document that you're unfamiliar with or have never written before? If so, then you can use a template to get the document layout, tables, charts and completion instructions at your finger tips. All you need to do is to fill-in the gaps. By using templates to complete new documents, you will gain a higher level of confidence in your work, helping you to excel in project management.

How to control your anger effectively

Health, MensXP.com
Never make decisions or share opinions when angry.

We are sure you all have heard this or read this many times before. But not all of us can actually put this into practice. We do mess up our friendships, relationships by saying things we shouldn’t have just because we were too angry to watch our words. If you’ve found yourself in a similar soup many times, then it is necessary for you to take steps to control this self-destructive behaviour.

1. Switch off

The moment you find yourself getting too angry and on the verge of blurting out what you know you shouldn’t, we advise you to shut your brain off. Yes, completely switch off from whatever anyone is saying and start ignoring the situation that is the reason behind this uncontrollable anger. The moment you retract into your safety cocoon, and detach yourself from the happenings, you will be able to focus on the larger picture and not impulsively say things you know you shouldn’t.

2. Breathe

Breathe from your gut. Breathe in and breathe out and totally relax your senses. Breathing is an age old, tried and tested technique that will help you to calm down. It may sound silly to you and you may wonder how one can stop being angry and start focusing on one’s breathing. Well, you can combine techniques one and two. Switch off and focus on your breathing. The purpose is to divert your attention and gain control over your anger.

3. Think and react

Once you have taken the time out and relaxed your senses, you can ponder over the situation and get to the crux of what is troubling you. This unbiased evaluation of the situation will help you look at things/issues reasonably. A cool head will help you evaluate what is wrong and what is not and will stop you from messing things up unnecessarily because of anger.

4. Talk calmly, apologise if you must

After you’ve analysed the situation you can continue the argument in a dignified, composed manner. Touch on points of relevance and cut the unnecessary finger-pointing and blame game out. Check your tone and voice levels and apologise if you have gone wrong somewhere.

This is an easy 4 step anger control process. Practise it whenever you get angry, and with time you will find the anger abating and gradually reducing in intensity.

It was Friday the 13th!

Remind what you done on 13th

It's Friday the 13th and it's the first of this year. Are you the superstitious sort? Then these are just some of the things you might want to avoid! Warning: You might not want to leave the house after reading this.

1. Pass a funeral procession
Some believe that if you do, you might end up with some form of misfortune the next day.

2. Give birth
The child might come across bad luck for the rest of his/her life.

3. Change the bed sheets
You risk having bad dreams.

4. Cut your hair
You might end up "snipping" the life of a family member.

5. Cut your nails

You might experience more bad luck for the rest of the year.

6. Start a new job or open a business
Naysayers could tell you that it will eventually collapse or become bankrupt. Black Friday has been associated with stock market crashes and other disasters since the 1800s.

7. Begin a trip
Problems might crop up. The most famous example of unlucky 13 is the Apollo 13 mission. It was launched at 13.13 hours and was aborted on April 13.

8. Embark on a sailing trip
Like the one about travelling, ships should think twice before leaving the harbour this day.

9. Consult a fortune teller
You might not like the news you hear. Also, going to see an astrologer on a "13" day goes against the principles of astrology. Think about it: There are just 12 zodiac signs and 12 months in a year.

10. Leave your calendar on the day marked Friday the 13th

You might end up with tons of bad luck. According to legend, the Norse goddess Frey (Friday) came down to Earth and gave a coven of witches her cat. Covens usually gather in groups of 12, but the addition of Frey's cat made the coven 13. Some believe that the 13th coven member was actually the devil!

Seven ‘good’ habits those are bad for your health

www.realbuzz.com
 Drinking water
While we are probably all familiar with the advice to drink eight glasses of water a day, more recent research has suggested that there is actually no scientific evidence supporting this recommendation and that drinking excessive amounts of water can actually be dangerous by lowering the concentration of salt in your blood. Health-conscious water drinkers should also be wary of the trend for drinking bottled water, as studies have suggested that the chemicals (phthalates) from plastic bottles can leach into water and disrupt hormone levels.

Talking over your problems
Talking through your problems can be a great way to gain some perspective and get things off your chest. However, studies have suggested that, after a certain point, rehashing and dwelling on problems can actually be bad for your health. According to research, revisiting and analyzing the same problems with friends (“co-rumination”) can lead to anxiety, stress disorders and depression. Next time a problem arises, by all means talk it over with a friend, but try to focus on problem-solving rather than simply dwelling on the issue.

Sipping on mock tails
You may think that by swapping cocktails for mocktails you are doing your health a favour, but this may not actually be the case. While cutting down on alcohol is beneficial for your wellbeing, mocktails are often high in refined sugar which research suggests is just as damaging and addictive as alcohol. For a safer swap and a shot of nutrients, make sure you stick to mocktails made from pure fruit juices instead of those made from syrups.

Early morning workouts
While a daily workout is great for your health, studies suggest that getting up for early morning exercise may not be as ideal as it seems. A study by a researcher from Brunel University, Middlesex, found that heavy training sessions early in the morning can compromise the immune system and put athletes at increased risk of bacterial and viral infection. While a morning jog or gentle exercise session is unlikely to put you at risk, it may be better to save heavier workouts for later in the day.

Taking nutritional supplements
We all know that vitamins are good for us, but relying on nutritional supplements can actually be bad for your health. Separate studies have shown that high doses of vitamin supplements including iron, magnesium and vitamin B6 raise the death rate of older women, while taking vitamin E can increase men’s risk of prostate cancer. While certain people may be required to take vitamins (those with low levels of vitamin D, for example, or vegans who may be deficient in vitamin B12), for most people a better approach is to opt for a varied diet full of fruit and vegetables which will give you all the nutrients you need.

Slathering on sunscreen
Official advice for many years has warned about the dangers of skin cancer, causing many of us to take measures to cover up in the sun at all times. However, while it is extremely important to protect your skin, experts have more recently advised that little and frequent sun exposure is good for us, preventing vitamin D deficiency, which can lead to rickets, osteomalacia and depression. Official advice in the UK, where rickets has recently made a comeback, is to spend 10 minutes in the midday sun without sunblock each day before covering skin up.

Switching to low fat foods
When getting started in healthy eating, it is tempting to opt for low fat foods in order to help keep off excess pounds. However, cutting out ‘good’ fats such as omega-3 fatty acids could be detrimental to your health. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in oily fish, walnuts and flaxseeds, not only help to keep skin supple and wrinkle-free, they are also essential for good brain and heart health and can help prevent arthritis.
